Taco Mamacita, as Promised

Taco Mamacita, as Promised

The Husband has been enjoying the lunch features at Taco Mamacita for quite a while now.  Looking at the menu he figured there was no way he could bring his gluten-intolerant wife to such a place.  Flour tortillas, enchiladas smothered in sauces, marinated meats, and lovely seasonings would send any Celiac running for the door.

But that was before he met Whitney.  Whitney works at Taco Mamacita and is gluten-intolerant herself.  So she has worked with the restaurant to make sure that there are many gluten-free options.  She has also taught them about avoiding cross-contamination in the kitchen.  After talking to Whitney, any gluten-free diner would feel comfortable eating at Taco Mamacita.

I have been to Taco Mamacita twice now, and since my first visit they have posted a Gluten-Sensitive Menu Guide on their website.  You can download the pdf here.

The Husband and I had a lovely, worry-free meal on Saturday night.  It started with appetizers.  Whitney highly recommended the guacamole but warned against the tortilla chips.  Since they are fried in the same oil used to fry flour tortillas she brought us corn tortillas sliced in wedges to dip into the creamy guacamole.  All of their appetizers are gluten-free.  Just stay away from the chips if you are extremely sensitive.

I opted for enchiladas.  After running the Nashville Women’s Half Marathon that morning I needed some serious protein.  The Brisket Rancheros fit the order perfectly.

The Husband ordered two tacos, the California Club and the Avocado Taco from the Vegan menu.

I love that there’s something for everyone at Taco Mamacita.  Meat-eater, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-intolerant?  You’ll be happy at Taco Mamacita.  Here are their Vegilladas with cilantro rice.

If you’re in the Nashville area, check out Taco Mamacita in Edgehill Village at 1200 Villa Place.  And definitely ask for Whitney.  She’ll take great care of you.

You should become a food critic for GF magazines and get paid for your seal of approval.

Hi! This is Whitney from Taco Mamacita! One of the owners found this article, printed it out and hung it up in the kitchen at the restaurant. It is very sweet and I am extremely proud that you were so happy with your experience at Taco Mamacita. Right away I was pretty sure I remembered who you were. The couple on the patio and your husband pulled up the gluten free menu on his phone, right? (We have them printed out now too) Anyway! I just wanted to share with you that I have been accepted to be a Nashville Gluten-Free Food Examiner for Examiner.com (www.examiner.com/glutenfree-food-in-nashville/whitney-manahan) and I will be posting a couple articles a week in addition to the blog I just started. Again, I am so glad you loved your taco experience and thank you for the awesome write-up. Us gluten-free-ers gotta stick together! :)
    Cheers.

Whitney! How fun that you found me! We almost came in Saturday night. I’m so excited for your new endeavor. I checked out your examiner site, and you’re off to a great start! Do you have another blog too? What’s the site? I look forward to following you and learning from you. You’re in a great position to help a lot of GFers in our area!

My daughter is gluten free and it is a great place for fresh mex food. Servers are knowledgeable about GF!

A Curious Girl in the Gluten-Free World

I'm a curious girl, wife, teacher, fitness fanatic, gluten-free foodie, high-raw vegan, and Mama Cat living in NYC. I've made the transition from baking and cooking gluten-free to creating raw vegan recipes that are naturally gluten free. My gluten intolerance opened up my diet to a whole new world of nutritious plant-based foods. While I'm not 100% vegan, it's my favorite way to eat, and making and sharing raw foods makes me giddy. Living in the City has its joys and challenges, and I enjoy sharing my experiences with you.
