“What matters most is what’s inside.” I love that line from Attune Foods. It’s true about people, and it’s true about food. Attune believes in using pure and simple ingredients that make you feel good from the inside out. So do I. That’s why I love their products. And recently, I’ve tried a new one.
I take a probiotic in capsule form daily. But lately I’ve been eating Attune Probiotic Bars. They are little gluten-free chocolate bars packed with 6.1 billion CFUs of clinically supported strains of probiotics. They come in three different flavors: Milk Chocolate Crisp, Mint Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate.

I expected these probiotic bars to taste like a health bar. But they taste like a bar you’d choose for a treat, not for your tummy! Whenever I can’t believe how delicious something is I give it to the Husband to try. I found him in the office pecking away at the computer. Not wanting to bias him with the label or my expectant face, I handed him a small square of chocolate and walked out of the room. Less than a minute later he came to find me. ”That’s really good chocolate. Where did you get it?”
Passed the Husband test.
The Milk Chocolate Crisp Bar has little rice crisps that remind me of a Nestle Crunch. Those of us with gluten intolerance rarely find crispy chocolate bars that we can eat as they usually contain barley malt. So this is a rare treat.

The Mint Chocolate Bar also has little rice crisps, but the cool, refreshing taste is the highlight of this bar. It’s a perfect after dinner mint.

The Dark Chocolate Bar is velvety smooth and rich in antioxidants. It’s made with 68% cocoa and is dairy free.
These simple bars have only 90 calories. So they work well as a light snack, a pick me up, or an finale to lunch or dinner. They’re little, but they pack a powerful flavor that will stop a sweets craving in its tracks.
I’m breaking my rule with this product. Normally, if a label has ingredients that I can’t pronounce, I don’t eat it. But thankfully these unpronouncable ingredients are probiotic cultures that I’m happy to eat!
Do you see anything that concerns you here? I did. That dreaded “manufactured on equipment that also processes…wheat” statement. When questioned, Attune responded that the bars are run on a shared line with other products that contain wheat. The machinery is then cleaned between production runs, and the bars are tested after they’re made to ensure they’re less than 5ppm.
Thank you, Attune, for being a company that we can rely on to provide healthy, delicious, safe food.
Readers, dish!

Thank you for the post, what a great find!! Can’t wait to try the “faux nestle crunch”
Colette, thank you so much for visiting Gluten-Free Cat! I forgot to mention in the post that I found these lovely bars in the refrigerated section of Whole Foods, but not the regular refrigerated section. They were in a little refrigerated case closer to Whole Body…where they have probiotics and flaxseed oil. At first I didn’t think our store carried them, but I asked and was directed right there. I’m sure I keep them on their toes with restocking! I love these bars!
I was eating them on a daily basis (they carry them at my local Whole Foods). However, I stopped when I went on a liver detox/elimination diet. I’ve been trying to steer clear of sugar as much as possible because once I start eating it, I start to crave it more.
So glad to know that you like them too! Are you still on the detox/elimination diet? How is it going? Or how did it go? I know what you mean about eliminating sugar which breaks the craving cycle. One thing I love about these bars is that they are small, which forces portion control.
I’m still mostly doing the diet. I’ve lost about 40lbs, seen my liver go from a stage 2 to stage 0 and had a reduction in liver enzymes. The diet is very much like a Paleo/Primal diet in a lot of ways so I’m probably going to permanently alter my diet in that direction. I’ve started adding a few things back in and will, for special occasions, allow GF grains and sugar (like in the red velvet cupcakes with marshmallow cream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting that I’m making for a friend’s picnic today). I will probably also allow some dairy in (I had previously been tested for dairy sensitivity and it was negative).
Basically I’ve been trying to make sure I’m eating nutrient rich, organic, unprocessed foods (grass/pasture raised meats/eggs/dairy) while eliminating hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and factory farmed meats, eggs and dairy. It may be more expensive up front, but it saves money down the road by making me healthier and less prone to health problems (so fewer doctors visits and medications).
What an answer to prayer that you are doing so well! You are a testimony to God’s healing power and the power of the food that He surrounds us with.
(And I hope you enjoyed those red velvet cupcakes!)

I must be the only person in america who is allergic to chocolate. I have such a hard time finding any kind of bar that does not contain chocolate.
Oh, Nora. I’m sorry! I spent much of my life avoiding chocolate too. I had terrible migraine headaches and was told that chocolate was one of the triggers. Since then I’ve found that I was getting headaches from gluten. Now that I’m gluten-free I no longer get migraines. (And I can eat chocolate!) But I understand how hard it is to stay away from chocolate. Have you tried substituting carob for chocolate? Carob chip cookies, carob pudding…can start tasting like chocolate the further away from the real thing you are! Thanks so much for stopping by, Nora. Are you gluten-free too?
So glad to see this post. I’ve noticed the bars but anything with crispy rice usually means gluten so I never picked them up. I will look for them this afternoon! Thanks.
Look in the refrigerated section. I almost gave up, but when I asked for them, the grocers knew how to help me.
BTW, just found your blog. So excited to know you!!
I am wondering how much these chocolate bars are? I am excited because I was just told that I can’t have milk of gluten, so I want to try the dark chocolate!
Rats! I just left Whole Foods…determined to get everything for the entire weekend. But I’m sure I left something I need off the list and will return tomorrow. When I do, I’ll be sure to check the price of the bars. My guess is $1.79. I could be off by a dime, but they are definitely under $2.00.
So you are a gluten-free newbie! Welcome to our world, Jackie! You may be feeling a little overwhelmed right now. Please feel free to ask questions here on the blog or email me at heather@glutenfreecat.com. I’m happy to help you! Soon you’ll be so thankful that you’ve found a way to feel better, and finding good food that you can eat will not be such a chore. Big hugs to you!!
They’re $1.39 at Whole Foods…even better!
My husband is now GF, also corn and soy free. I have yet to find any chocolate that doesn’t have soy lecithin in it. I see that these do, too. We don’t have a Whole Foods here, but we did in our previous location, so I know them well. Keep an eye out for soy-free chocolate, will you?
Have you tried Enjoy Life? Their Boom Choco Boom bars may be just what you’re looking for!
I’ve never seen them before but I’m not often in the chocolate isle to avoid temptation. Cool that they are adding in probiotics.
I love attune dark chocolate bars!
And the dairy free bar fits you perfectly!
Looked at the Franklin Whole Foods and didn’t see them with the probiotics. Were you at Green Hills?
They are definitely at the Franklin Whole Foods. Just grabbed a few yesterday. They’re on a refrigerated endcap that faces the back of the store on the middle aisle right beside the Whole Body section. They’re on the very bottom shelf. They’re not by the probiotic pills, but right around the corner by probiotic products and drinks. Hope that helps!
Was there last night, didn’t look at the refrigerated end cap you mention! Had my 13 yr old w/ autism w/ me and I don’t get to browse as much as I’d like when she is with me. Will look there next time! THANK YOU!
