Raw Foods Thursdays 5/23/13

Welcome to Raw Foods Thursdays! This has been a crazy week for me as it’s my last week of school. Keeping kindergarteners engaged while I close out the school year has had my full attention, but a girl has to eat! Thanks for linking up 25 recipes last week that made my meal planning a snap! Here are some quick highlights just in case you missed them.

What are Raw Foods Meals?

  • Plant-based meals that are not cooked.  Dehydrators may be used.  (The raw foods community has differing views on temperature, but the range is between 104 and 118 degrees.) Feel free to link up recipes that use a slightly higher temperature as long as they could be made at 118 with a longer dry time.
  • Raw Ingredients: vegetables, fruit, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, gluten-free sprouted grains, beans, and oils.

What isn’t raw?

  • Anything cooked or heated above 118.
  • Anything processed.  If it comes from a can or a package that lists more than one ingredient, chances are it’s not raw!
  • If your recipe contains an ingredient like maple syrup that makes your submission “almost raw”, please share it anyway. Raw sweeteners are easy to substitute.

    Yeah for last week of school! Any big plans this summer? Being a little lazy and taking things slow is always a nice way to appreciate the time off. We are on such a ridged schedule everyday, I look forward to the change of pace. And I work on weekends, so I can really enjoy my time with the kids during the week.

    Anyway, this week I am sharing my raw cereal. It’s been such a treat for us all. I am enjoying it with a cold bowl of walnut milk or on top of my homemade yogurt. Yum!

      Amber, yay for SURE! My favorite part about summer is the reprieve from rigidity. Sleep in a little, eat meals when I’m hungry instead of from 12:35-1:05. A little freedom is so healing!

      I really can’t wait to try your cereal. I nearly flipped when I saw it on Facebook!

  4. Hello and thank you for the invite Heather!
    How exciting… a whole day devoted to raw foods! I am sharing a spiraled zucchini noodle dish with a spicy peanut ginger sauce. The aim of my blog (and my diet) is low fat, no salt and high nutrient vegan dishes with very little if any gluten as well. I’m going for a serious health overhaul and trying to make some pretty and tasty food along the way. Can’t wait to follow along here.

      Linda, you’re not late, you’re right on time! It’s funny that sometimes we don’t think of salads as raw meals. Raw meals have a reputation for being complicated, but it’s so easy to throw together a salad or a slaw with a tasty plant-based dressing. So glad you linked up!

A Curious Girl in the Gluten-Free World

I'm a curious girl, wife, teacher, friend, fitness fanatic, foodie, high raw vegan, child of the King, and Mama Cat. I've made the transition from baking and cooking gluten-free to creating raw vegan recipes that are naturally gluten free.
